Successful Network Modernization Project for Niger Telecom

PROTEI the leading telecom solution provider, and GABS Telecommunications, a systems integrator based in Malaysia, have successfully completed a network modernization contract for Niger Telecom. Founded in 2016 through the merger of two local carriers, Niger Telecom is a state-owned company dedicated to enhancing business services and addressing the challenges posed by the convergence of offerings among expanding local telecom carriers.

The project aims to broaden the range of services provided by Niger Telecom, necessitating the implementation of an advanced platform for analyzing and managing data traffic. PROTEI’s PCEF (DPI) serves as the optimal solution in terms of functionality and performance and was executed in collaboration with GABS Telecommunications, a well-regarded solutions provider for Niger Telecom.

In May 2019, the professional teams from PROTEI and GABS completed all preliminary installation procedures, configurations, and acceptance tests at the operator’s site in Niamey. The staged integration encountered significant challenges due to the necessity of combining diverse access networks and multi-vendor platform elements while ensuring minimal downtime and risk during migration. Engineers from Niger Telecom and GABS Telecommunications collaborated closely on-site, complemented by live remote support from PROTEI experts throughout all phases, exemplifying effective international teamwork under current global conditions.

The PROTEI DPI, integrated with Broadband Access Equipment (BRAS) and Mobile Network Core (EPC), enables the operator to gain detailed insights into traffic structures across all network segments, reaching up to layer 7 of the OSI model. This integration enhances service awareness and provides in-depth traffic analysis.

These capabilities have empowered Niger Telecom to optimize bandwidth distribution among subscribers and enhance quality of service (QoS) during peak hours. Furthermore, the integration of PROTEI DPI with the Online Charging System (OCS) has allowed the operator to introduce updated tariffs and service options, thereby boosting profitability.

PROTEI DPI is a data traffic processing platform featuring deep packet inspection capabilities that effectively manage network resources and facilitate the introduction of new value-generating services. As an advanced software solution that does not require proprietary hardware, the platform significantly optimizes data service provisioning and offers numerous additional services.

The embedded monitoring and statistics system enables clear tracking of traffic volume and structures while capturing subscribers’ QoS perceptions.

It is worth mentioning that PROTEI DPI solution have been deployed in fixed and mobile broadband networks in over 15 countries for more than seven years, demonstrating improvements in network functionality and enabling the delivery of innovative services. Consequently.
