PROTEI, the leading telecom solutions provider, has successfully completed a network modernization project for Kazakhstan’s operator Ducat, a prominent player in the telecom sector. In May 2012, PROTEI NGN equipment was deployed in Almaty and four other cities across the republic, enabling Ducat to provide a comprehensive range of modern telecommunications services.
Since its inception in 1993, Ducat has concentrated on the business sector, where high connection quality and a variety of additional services are essential. As a result, the company has always been meticulous in its hardware selection. PROTEI solutions have established a strong reputation in Kazakhstan for their quality and future-proof design, significantly influencing Ducat’s decision to partner with PROTEI.
Beyond quality and reliability, Ducat’s requirements included scalability, flexible adaptation to specific client needs, and considerations surrounding service quality and support costs. The solution proposed by PROTEI fully addressed all of the operator’s technical and economic needs. Central to the system deployed for Ducat is the imSwitch5 softswitch, installed in Almaty, which supports over 30 services, including Unified Communication (Voice, Video, Instant Messaging, and Presence). The service offerings can be further expanded through the integration of external intelligent network platforms.
A notable feature of the softswitch is the integrated SORM system, developed by PROTEI, which provides lawful interception capabilities in line with government regulations. Currently, 5,000 subscribers are connected to the imSwitch5 services, with plans to grow this number to 10,000. To ensure all Ducat subscribers have access to NGN services, mGate.ITG trunk gateways were installed in four cities nationwide, allowing subscribers on TDM networks to access the new services.
The modernization of the Ducat network was executed exclusively with PROTEI equipment, enabling the operator to transition to IP technology. This migration has significantly improved the range and quality of services available to subscribers while resulting in substantial reductions in network operating costs. The success of this project has set the stage for further collaboration between Ducat and PROTEI, including plans for the operator to utilize PROTEI equipment to expand its number pool.
